06/05/2008 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Paul Konerko drilled a two-run homer in the bottom of the 15th inning to boost the White Sox to a 6-4 win over Kansas City in the middle installment of a three-game series.
Jim Thome hit a monstrous two-run homer in the fourth inning and Joe Crede connected for a solo shot in the fifth and finished with two RBI for the White Sox, but Bobby Jenks blew the save in the ninth by allowing a two-run single to David DeJesus.
Orlando Cabrera had two hits for the White Sox, who are a step away from sweeping the three-game series.
Octavio Dotel (3-2) threw the final 2 2/3 innings to get the victory, while Jimmy Gobble (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
Miguel Olivo and Mark Teahen hit solo homers for the Royals, losers in 14 of their last 16 games.
Kansas City starter Luke Hochevar, who had a no-hitter going until the fourth inning, was lifted after allowing five hits and four runs in 5 2/3 frames. Chicago starter John Danks also lasted 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and two runs.
Gobble came on to start the 15th and immediately walked Carlos Quentin. Konerko then blasted the first pitch over the wall in left field for his seventh homer of the year to set off a wild celebration, ending the 4-hour, 23-minute marathon.
Before the hit, the White Sox were nearly victimized by major base running mistakes. Alexei Ramirez missed home plate on a slide in the fifth inning and in the 11th, Brian Anderson was thrown out trying to stretch a hit into a triple.
Olivo homered to left leading off the second inning and Teahen blasted a ball over the wall in center in the fourth.
Konerko walked with one out in the bottom of the inning, and then Thome clobbered a pitch over the ivy, way past the 400-foot sign and onto the concourse in center field. The 464-foot shot was the fifth-longest home run at U.S. Cellular Field.
Crede led off the fifth with a shot over the wall in left, but the White Sox lost a giant chance to extend the lead later in the inning. Ramirez walked, and A.J. Pierzynski singled with one out.
Quentin then hit a ball up the middle and shortstop Esteban German booted the ball, but threw home in an attempt to get Ramirez. Catcher John Buck blocked the plate with his left foot. Ramirez's left foot got caught up with Buck's foot, and home plate umpire Bill Miller didn't immediately rule safe or out, as Ramirez went to the Sox dugout. Royals manager Trey Hillman then came out to talk to Buck, and Kansas City appealed the play, at which time Ramirez was ruled out.
KC wasted a bases loaded chance in the sixth, and Crede doubled in Nick Swisher in the bottom half, but Chicago also left the bases full.
Buck and pinch-hitter Alberto Callaspo singled in the ninth to set up DeJesus' tying hit.

Mayweather picked to beat De La Hoya
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya and his rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. arrived at the MGM Grand here Wednesday amid the pomp and pandemonium befitting two of the biggest stars in the sport who are about to duke it out for the WBC super welterweight crown this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
As of Wednesday, MySportsbook.com closed its book with Mayweather a favorite to defeat De La Hoya at -170 (a $100 bet wins $70), while De La Hoya is a +140 underdog (a $100 bet wins $140).
Mayweather arrived at about 11:30 a.m. on a big truck with his face and a big "World's Best Pound-for-Pound" sign scribbled across the vehicle. He was accompanied by his entourage made up of rappers and his training team.
A crowd of close to 3,000 eager fans packed the MGM Grand lobby, with their cameras in tow, all trying to vie for position to get a good angle at Mayweather, who is acknowledged as the world's best fighter pound-for-pound.
Eric Gomez, Golden Boy Promotions vice-president, described the fan turnout as "amazing" and swore he had never seen anything quite like this event.
"The crowd was fantastic. Everybody was just too eager to see the two fighters," said ALA manager Michael Aldeguer, who was among those who waited at the lobby together with his ward Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista and AJ Banal.
De La Hoya made his own grand entrance at the hotel lobby at around 12:30 p.m. accompanied by GBP chief executive officer Richard Schaefer and trainer Freddie Roach.
The same group of fans who trooped to see Mayweather also lingered around to get a close look at De La Hoya, who has been secretly working out at a Las Vegas gym for days after arriving from his main training camp in Puerto Rico.
The golden boy then took part in a closed-door afternoon workout with Bautista and Banal. The two, along with Aldeguer and wife Christine, as well as an HBO crew were the only ones allowed inside the gym.
De La Hoya and Mayweather take part in today's final press conference before the official weigh-in this Friday.
Ring Magazine, the acknowledged bible of boxing, reported in its June 2007 issue that 12 out of 20 boxing experts it interviewed have favored Mayweather to defeat De la Hoya, with only 8 favoring the latter.
But Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao said in a recent interview with The Freeman's Emmanuel Villaruel that De La Hoya will win by unanimous decision over Mayweather.
